Red Hook Studios revealed Darkest Dungeon 2, the sequel to the haunting and addicting dungeon crawler from 2016. With only a teaser and a few details to spare, there are many questions unanswered for the time being.
Darkest Dungeon went through a long period in Early Access, and quickly became one of the most known indie games out there thanks to its presentation, an iconic narrator that joins you in battle, and the emblematic Stress system that can cause afflictions in your party members. Now, after a series of quality of life updates and new content added with DLCs, the sequel is on its way beginning exactly where we left off.
According to an interview with the studio by PCGamer, Darkest Dungeon 2 “will have its own creative and thematic identity”. This includes a “significant tune-up” for the combat system in which enduring throughout a journey will be the major focus instead of defending different scenarios from the estate. As for further details, the studio didn’t reveal that much regarding the story but did point out that they’re “giving players a glimpse of the supernatural apocalypse twisting and distorting the world beyond the estate”.
It doesn’t matter if it costs me my sanity in the process, but the promise of a sequel demands me to finally make that final jump and invest the time needed to get through the end with as many characters as possible.
Darkest Dungeon 2 is set to release in Early Access, but there isn’t any confirmation on a release window for the time being. Until then, I’ll be busy trying to beat the first game once and for all, an experience that has been with me since the first days during Early Access and has recently jumped to my Switch as well. Although we all know, it’s not that easy.
