When I reach
my limit
I think of
Roxas’ limit break.
His special ability:
Magic Hour.
Wearing grief
in a black coat,
he stands before
The Heartless;
his darkness
personified.
Then
he breaks
cries
smites
with pillars
of light.
Wielding Keyblades
of yellow moon
and inky night
he fights.
When I reach my limit,
The Heartless
find me.
When night falls
they rise
with red eyes
barbed tongues
and snatching tentacles.
Wearing hope
and dreams
in golden armor,
I break
wipe tears
then fight fears.
My Keyblade
is a brilliant star
that slashes
moonlight.
With one strike
my special ability
activates:
Full Moon Blast.
Halos of light
erupt from me
as I float
carefree.
I am
an angel
vanquishing
demons
to stay alive.
In the end,
I survive
emerging
from darkness
to stand in
the dawn.

[…] One particular poem inspired by the video game series Kingdom Hearts rekindled my passion for poetry. By seamlessly weaving together events from the game with the author’s personal feelings, this poem demonstrates that video games are an art form that can provide catharsis and inspire other art. It inspired me to write my own Kingdom Hearts poem, “Limit Break”. […]
