Dragon Ball FighterZ’s Switch Open Beta Strikes on August 9

Prepare to fight on the go.

Bandai Namco announced that the long-awaited Dragon Ball FighterZ’s open beta for the Switch is arriving on August 9, featuring Arena Match, Ring Match and Ring Party Mach modes, along with the Practice Battle Tutorial to hone your skills before meeting foes online.

The Open Beta will be available to pre-load on the eShop starting August 3rd, and the doors will on August 9 (9:00pm PDT) right until August 11th (11:59 PDT).

Everyone was hesitant about a Switch port for the latest Dragon Ball entry in the fighting game genre. Some could swear it was only a matter a time, but rumours about the console not being able to run the game properly were everywhere on the internet. This changed when Dragon Ball FighterZ got its roughly 30 seconds of fame during Nintendo’s conference at E3 2018.

But if you’re really curious about how the game actually runs on the Switch, below is a video from Gamespot showcasing DBFZ in handheld mode. Spoilers: better than I could have ever expected.

I’m not sure what kind of sorcery Bandai Namco did with this port, but if I wouldn’t have been worried about the rumours prior seeing this footage, I’d tell you this game was built with the Switch in mind from the start.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is already available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Make sure to visit the official site for more information and don’t forget to follow Bandai Namco on Twitter for any upcoming announcements about the beta.
