[E3 2018] New Hope For Mass Effect Fans

Last year saw the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Unfortunately, Andromeda didn’t quite meet the expectations of fans of the beloved Mass Effect series. After patiently waiting for five years since the release of Mass Effect 3 in 2012, fans felt let down by what seemed like an incomplete game. Rushed storylines, unconvincing animation, and poorly textured surfaces were among the shortcomings of the game.

It wasn’t long before BioWare spoke up, stating that they were put under too much pressure, and that a lot of the team had been reassigned to a new project. This project was then revealed as Anthem, which was first announced at E3 last year. Last night, Saturday June 9th, we got a closer look at Anthem, and aside from the fact that the skins look like they were borrowed from 2008, fans seem to be pretty excited. Also, it was announced that Anthem would feature no randomised loot boxes, and no pay-to-win framework. In relation to a multiplayer game of this scale and calibre in 2018, that’s pretty refreshing to hear.

However, it wasn’t all about Anthem for BioWare. Speaking to Joe Juba of Game Informer, BioWare’s Casey Hudson talked about Anthem: “I would say a majority of the people at BioWare are working on Anthem”.

However, Hudson went on, unexpectedly addressing fan-favourites Mass Effect and Dragon Age. We’re already aware that a new Dragon Age title has been in pre-production for quite some time, but this was the first time Mass Effect had been addressed since BioWare confirmed that there would be no DLC for Andromeda early last year.

Addressing Mass Effect as his “baby”, Hudson said: “I helped start Mass Effect from the beginning. Of course we intend to get back to it at some point.”

This could very well be the highlight of E3 for many gaming fans. BioWare will return to Mass Effect at some point, and It is very likely that they won’t cut corners this time.
